The First Kiss

Yesterday while driving home I was struck with a memory or something that I hadn't thought of in a very long time.

Randy and I met my sophomore year of college.  I was full out having fun with my girlfriends, not a care in the world other than deciding who was going to be our designated driver for the evening.  When he called me to ask me to a party a friend of his was throwing, I wasn't really expecting it to be more than a fun evening, a couple of laughs and some smooching.

Then it all changed.

I still see it perfectly.  We were sitting at the tall table over in the corner.  He looked me right in the eyes, leaned in and kissed me so gently.  The room around us disappeared, the DJ was gone, there was no one else in the world except for he and I.  To be as cliched as possible, the world stopped and fireworks went off.

The first kiss is something we all look forward to.  It is so highly anticipated that more often than not it falls flat, leaves us wondering what went wrong.  Not ours though.  Our first kiss left me wanting more.

Sitting in traffic on my way home, reliving this moment, I was once again sitting at that tall table.  I was feeling the rapid fire emotions of happiness, amazement, terror and joy.  I was reminded of one of the many reasons why we are together and why we love each other so very much.

I don't know what sparked that memory...but I'm so glad I have it.

This Is What Passes For Seduction

This morning Randy opened up the freezer and immediately got bent out of shape because he couldn't find his frozen blueberries that he uses Every. Single. Morning.

R: You didn't get blueberries? ::huge sigh::

Me: Yes dear, I did.

R: Where are they?

Me: In that great big giant bag right there.

R: ::laughing:: Yeah, I don't think you got nearly enough ::voice dripping with sarcasm::

Me: Well, they were cheaper by the unit to buy the big bag rather than little bag.

R: ::setting aside his oatmeal:: ::grabs me in a hug:: Are you trying to seduce me talking about "unit price"? Because it's working.

I'm so lucky.

What's That Saying About the Best Laid Plans?

So, yeah.

Keagan is sick.

And has been sick since Saturday.

It's been a rough couple of days juggling a screaming, feverish child hence the lack of the giveaway yesterday.

But never fear, we will power through.

I've decided to do one giveaway a day for the next four days rather than shove it all into one day, because quite frankly? I'm beat!

That being said, what do you think of the new layout? Isn't it awesome??

I'm off to post the first giveaway, but in the meantime (and because I love any excuse to post this picture of Randy) I'd like to wish a VERY Happy 31st Birthday to the love of my life. I hope you have a wonderful day baby!

Isn't he just a pretty little Princess?

Did I Tell You About ...

I know it has been a couple of weeks since our NYC Anniversary trip and that I failed miserably in the re-cap of said trip. But, there is one story that, while Randy will probably beat me for posting, I HAVE to share.

::scene set-up::

After driving 4 hours to the big city, crossing the Queensboro Bridge at 10am and entering Long Island City, Randy hands me the phone.

R: Why don't you call the hotel to see if they happen to have off-street parking.

Me: Ok. ::dials # pre-programmed into phone::

:ring, ring:

Me: Hi, do you have off-street parking? You do? First come, first serve? Great! Thanks!

R: Do they?

Me: Did you not just hear me say that?

As we approach hotel we keep our eyes peeled for the off-street parking, to no avail. After circling the block 5 times, Randy tells me to get out and go ask the concierge where said parking is.

I come out 5 minutes later to tell him that there is in fact NOT off-street parking, despite previous conversation. I direct him to the two closest parking lots. We start circling.

It's now 11:15am.

First parking lot = Fail. Second parking lot = Double Fail.

We keep circling.

Finally we find a 24/7 parking lot. Eight blocks away from our hotel.

And he wants to bring our bags now.

And mine doesn't have wheels.

And now it's getting warm.

And I have ballet flats on.

We arrive back at the hotel and let them know that we would like to check our bags prior to check-in.

Concierge: I'm sorry, we don't have a reservation under that name.

Me: Awesome.

Randy: ::fuming, drags out laptop::

Five minutes later.

Randy: Oh.

Me: What?

Randy: We're at the wrong hotel (aside - HE put the address into the GPS and HE drove). We're at the Comfort Suites. We're supposed to be at the Country Inn and Suites.

Me: OK. Where is our correct hotel?

Answer?

Directly across the street from where we parked our car.

Like a stone's throw away.

I'm not kidding.

Needless to say, it was a pretty quiet eight block walk back.

Things I Learned Last Night.

• I can no longer drink an entire bottle of wine (without eating anything no less) by myself. On a school night. In the city.

• I have the best husband in the world. He not only picked me up, but (I’m sure) listened to me babble the whole ride home. And he brought me a bowl just in case.

• I also have the cutest son in the entire world. But I’ve known that for awhile.

• Work Happy Hours have a way of opening people up. Sometimes good. Sometimes, not so much.

• And the finale? Don’t change from Pinot Grigio to Riesling. It doesn’t end well.

He Makes Me Smile

Oftentimes I wonder if my husband is actually listening to me as I babble on about my "internet" friends, my new found love of Twitter, that AWESOME bracelet I got from lia sophia, this blog.

Never again will I wonder.

Last night on the way to Lowe's (because we're there pretty much every other day...but that is an entirely different blog) we were talking about how excited I was to have a half day today so I could get my Mother's Day shopping done, do some running around and hit the road early to see Gram.

He looks at me and says "Yeah, and you can get caught up on your blogging."

Just hearing him say "blogging" made me smile. He does listen. He obviously doesn't read it (because HELLO, I've been a blogging fool this week) but he does listen. That will suffice for now.

And?

Here's some Keagan love this wonderful Friday.

Coincidentally that is EXACTLY how I plan on looking after my evening visit with Gram. And Sangria.

You Know You're A Parent When...

...listening to CNN while getting ready for work has been replaced by listening to your husband sing (in falsetto) along to Puff the Magic Dragon while your son stares at him in wonderment.

Poor Skittles.

Conversation with Randy last night:

Me: Hey babe, how's it going?

Him: Good. Just feeding the little guy.

Me: ::bends down to pet Skittles:: and how are you Skittles?

Him: Yeah...want to know what Skittles doesn't like?

Me: What?

Him: She doesn't like Keagan riding her that's for sure!

Me: ::blank stare:: Dear lord. Someone had some time on their hands, yes?

Mmmmm....Cereal

Well, it's official. My child loves food.

Our pediatrician suggested starting him on a little rice cereal at night to help with his projectile spitting and ridiculous cluster feeding.

Shockingly (/sarcasm) he LOVED it! He even figured out that when the bald man brings the spoon out it's time to open the mouth for yummy goodness.

Unfortunately, Daddy isn't the neatest baby feeder on the block. But he'll figure it out...eventually.

Proof That I Am Monica*

*This is one of many Friends references in my life. Yes, I can quote all 10 seasons. Be afraid.

Randy asks me Friday night if I would like my Mother's Day present early so that I have it when we visit the family:

Me: No, that's ok...I think I know what it is anyway.

Him: Really? What do you think it is?

Me: I don't want to say, I just think I know.

Him: ::raises eyebrows:: No really, what do you think it is, because I defintely don't think you know.

Me: Oh no, I'm almost positive. I saw your search from ebay.

Him: Yeah, I definitely didn't get it off ebay. What do you think it is?

Me: Well, I saw that you searched label makers and you know I want one...so that's what you got me!

Him: ::blank stare::

Him: ::laughing hysterically to the point of almost tears::

Him: I love you so much.

Me: ::confused look:: What? I'm right, right?

Him: You seriously thought I got you a label maker for your first Mother's Day?

Me: Well ya. I'd love one!

Him: Yeah, not so much. Do you want a set of pots and pans for your birthday too?

I didn't get a label maker. I did however get a lovely Pandora bracelet with Keagan's birthstone. He did good.

But I still want a label maker.

Tomorrow I Meet My Son

Tomorrow I meet my son.

Tomorrow I get to watch my husband become a father.

Tomorrow I become a mother.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow we make grandparents into great - grandparents.

Tomorrow we make parents into grandparents.

Tomorrow we make aunts and uncles and cousins.

Tomorrow.

Tomorrow I get to see whose nose, whose hair, whose eyes, whose smile he has.

Tomorrow we get to cuddle, a new family.

Tomorrow we meet our son.

The Sober Irish Chick.

A group of us went braved the snowy weather and went bowling last night. Hilarity ensued.

Now, I usually kick Randy's butt. Big time. Sadly, he killed us all his first game. BUT, being the genius that he is, he finally figured out why I hadn't brought my "A Game".

Obviously I'm not doing well...I'm Irish, not drinking and bowling. These things do not go hand in hand for success. Now if I was bombed? This game would be MINE!

Do you know the Muffin Man?

Not a great picture, but here is our Halloween Costume this year.

(my shirt says "Bun in Oven" and Randy's apron says "Bun Maker")

Randy totally carried the costume complete with chef hat, whisk, rubber gloves in his back pocket and a mixing bowl.

I carried the costume with raspberry lipgloss.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

It's a conspiracy...they are working against me now!

Every now and then I will have to hide food around the house. This may seem weird to you, I know it is to me most of the time. The reasoning behind this is because my lovely, health conscious, work out savvy husband has ABSOLUTELY no self control when it comes to sweets.

The problem?

Well, when I buy a package of Double Stuff Oreos I expect them to be where I left them...untouched preferably, or at least with very few missing.

Sadly, this is never the case. Once said treats are found they disappear at an astonishing rate. When confronted, Randy says "That damn rat again..." Nice. Usually I'm lucky if I get one treat before they are gone.

So, this past weekend I treated myself to a bag of Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids (only my all time favorite candy EVER) and placed them in their Target bag in the spare room. No one but me ever really goes in there so I figure they would be safe, especially since they weren't in plain view.

Randy just calls me:

Him: What else besides the Swedish Fish and Sour Patch Kids were in the spare room.

Me: Why?

Him: Was there anything else?

Me: Crap, Skittles found them didn't she?

Him: Yup, all the Swedish Fish are gone...

Me: Please tell me she didn't eat the Sour Patch Kids, I'll beat her.

Him: Well, she tried but I don't think she liked them.

Me: Did she slobber all over them?

Him: ::chewing:: I sure hope not because I'm eating them right now.

Awesome. They'll be gone by lunch time.

29 Years...

Happy Birthday to Randy!

Yesterday my wonderful husband turned 29 years old. One step closer to 30. WOW.

He'll probably hurt me for posting this picture too...but it is too perfect pass up.

Happy Birthday baby, I love you.
