36 Weeks 5 Days - Happy Valentines Day!

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

So, he wants to be early like his mommy eh?

Well, I had my 36 week appointment yesterday.

For starters, my blood pressure was thru the roof. Even after "resting" for 20 minutes it was still crazy high.

On top of that, I apparently gained 10lbs. in 2 weeks. Um...HOW? Oranges can't have that many calories! Water retention anyone?

So, she comes in and starts talking to me about how I probably have pre-eclampsia. Does an internal (I'm NOT in the 'can't feel a thing group' FYI) and says I'm closed tight up and I should be having sex every day to get things going so we can deliver at 38 weeks. (This is where I start laughing hysterically)

Awesome.

Then she pulls out the u/s machine to make sure he is head down.

Guess what?

He's breech.

Great.

Now she says, well, if your blood pressure and proteins aren't down (oh and by the way, you're done with work) then I would plan on having a c-section on Monday.

::blank stare::

So, I was hooked up to the fetal monitor for 30 minutes, gave blood and have to do a 24 hour urine catch tomorrow. Thursday I go back in to be checked and best case scenario, I have Shamrock on Monday. Worst case, he comes Thursday/Friday.

I was freaking out pretty well last night, but I've come as close to terms with it as I can. Funny thing is, I skipped over all the c-section talk in my books...guess I should revisit that!

And to think, all I wanted was reduced hours.

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big this month!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock’s senses are continuing to improve -- when light peeks in through my (extremely) stretched belly, those tiny eyelids and irises blink and dilate. And, he can now recognize and react to simple songs… time to start practicing our lullabies! Growth (at least inside your womb) is starting to slow, and I may notice him descend into my pelvis at the end of this month.

Black is Slimming, Yes?

::giggle::

31 weeks today. Where's that paper bag I had lying around here?

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock's energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. He is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as I have most definitely noticed -- they don’t necessarily coincide with my own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

Bed rest is going...slow. My Type A, gogogogogo personality is taking a hit and I'm slowly going mad. BUT, I know this is what is best for him, so here I sit.

Please excuse the exhaustion in this updated belly picture. Today was the first day I put on "real" clothes and actually blow dryed my hair!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big this month!

Per thenestbaby.com, Randy might be able to pick up Shamrock's heartbeat (no stethoscope required)by putting his ear to my tummy. Inside the womb, the formation of tiny capillaries is giving him a healthy pink glow. Shamrocks's also soaking up your antibodies, getting the immune system ready for life outside the womb. Eyes are forming, and he will soon perfect the blink -- perfect for batting those freshly grown lashes.

Belly Picture

I probably won't get to update again until later this week...but you get the idea!

Pssst...yeah, I'm 20 days from being in the double digits. Holy Crap!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big! (This represents the next three weeks)

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock is now able to hear outside noise from down in the womb. Studies show that baby finds gentle music and your own voice most soothing. Nipples are starting to sprout, and that little face is fully formed. And, he's starting to settle into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop. He started kicking me early this morning, guess he was hungry!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!

Oh wait, no...sorry. My mistake.

My appointment went well yesterday. Shamrock is measuring perfect, heart beat is strong. I'm up to 12 pounds now, no surprise there since it is finally starting to look like I'm actually pregnant and not just indulging in the Halloween Candy in the office.

Hope you all have a Safe and Happy Halloween!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big this week!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock is gulping down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for hydration and nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies are most interested in tastes they've already experienced through amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you want your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch. (So apparently Sour Patch Kids and apples are going to have to be stocked All.the.time!)

I have my second ultrasound today at 2:15pm to get some final measurements and an appointment with the OB on Thursday. BUSY week ahead!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big this week!

Shamrock's digestive system is busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, speaking of the diaper situation... baby's genitals are now fully formed! (and we know what they are too!)

Our Little Shamrock...

Is THIS big today!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock has become amazingly mobile (at least compared to me), passing the hours yawning, hiccuping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking and swallowing. And, he/she is finally big enough that I should be able to feel those movements soon. (I'm pretty sure I started feeling this about a week or so ago...like riding a rollercoaster let me tell ya!)

We have our 2nd Second Tri appointment today and our BIG ultrasound is to be scheduled. Can't wait!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big today!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock's skeleton is hardening, changing from rubbery cartilage to bone, and fat is finally accumulating around it. The umbilical cord is getting thicker and stronger, and those little fingers and toes are now topped by one-of-a-kind prints.

Counting down the days until we can schedule our BIG ultrasound! It's driving me mad!

PS. Gap maternity jeans = seriously the most comfortable piece of clothing I have EVER worn.

PPS. Take the poll people!

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big today!

Per thenestbaby.com, tiny bones forming in Shamrock's ears mean the little one can now pick up our voices. Eyebrows, lashes and hair are starting to fill in, and taste buds are forming. And, if you're interested, an ultrasound might be able to determine gender. (Can't WAIT to schedule this!)

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big today!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock is continuing the march towards normal proportions, his/her legs now outmeasure the arms. And, finally, all four limbs have functional joints. Shamrock is squirming and wiggling like crazy down in the womb, though I probably still haven't felt the movements.

And here's Mommy sporting a pair of her maternity (!!) pants.

Our Little Shamrock...

...is THIS big today!

Per thenestbaby.com, Shamrock is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, and (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over the body for warmth.

And here is what Mommy looks like at 14 weeks:

Still not really showing, but definitely still bloated (especially today!)
